After five days apart, man finds his dog following wildfire destruction

When the devastating Palisades Fire tore through California on January 7, 2025, the destruction was instantaneous and merciless. Homes were quickly engulfed, major roads became impassable, and mandatory evacuation orders left thousands of residents scrambling for safety. For local resident Casey Colvin, the immediate aftermath was defined by confusion, fear, and a gut-wrenching sense of helplessness.

His home, like many others in the affected neighborhood, was tragically reduced to ashes. The critical roads that once provided access were now closed or blocked by overwhelmed emergency responders, and the relentless fire continued to consume the landscape, leaving only charred ruins in its wake. But amid the widespread property destruction, Casey’s most profound fear was not the loss of his home—it was the unknown fate of his two beloved dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika.

Racing Against the Inferno

Casey was trapped at work when the fire erupted. As news of the Palisades Fire spread, he frantically attempted to make his way back to his home, propelled forward by a desperate concern for his dogs. Unable to use his car due to widespread road closures and blockades, Casey leased a bicycle, pedaling furiously through the smoky chaos. Five agonizing hours later, he finally reached his neighborhood only to find emergency crews blocking all access to the inferno. His home was unreachable, and the fate of Oreo and Tika Tika Tika remained a devastating unknown.

That was the moment Cal Fire Battalion Chief Brent Pascua intervened. Known for his unwavering courage and dedication, Pascua quickly assessed the situation and, understanding the urgency of the pets’ plight, did not hesitate. He pushed into the burning structure, navigating smoke-filled hallways and searing heat. The immense bravery required to enter a home fully engulfed in flames cannot be overstated.
